The Ulster Farmers’ Union (UFU) is urging dairy farmers to engage with the Government’s consultation on dairy contracts and speak up for a more effective dairy supply chain which delivers fairness for farmers and evenly balances the risk between farmers and processors.

The UFU has been working with all the UK farming unions to improve dairy contracts.

The Government launched the dairy consultation after the Grocery Code Adjudicator identified the issue of power inequality within their review of the dairy sector.

The Government’s consultation on dairy contracts is an opportunity to change the structure of the dairy industry to make it more sustainable, progressive and improve the way farmers and processors work together, however, it is vital that we get the input from dairy farmers across Northern Ireland.

The UFU have compiled a questionnaire based upon the DEFRA consultation and is encouraging members to submit their response. The UFU have also created a dedicated webpage for the consultation and provided members with guidance on how to fill out the consultation and the Union’s position.

UFU members can contact UFU HQ on 028 90 370 222 or email info@ufuhq.com.

The dairy consultation webpage can be found at the following link, https://www.ufuni.org/farming/dairy-contracts.
